DAY 13 Friday 12TH DECEMBER, PRAGUE - DRESDEN (B)After breakfast travel by our own coach to Dresden (former East Germany). The city was rebuilt after being totally destroyed (13th February 1945) and is now a fascinating beautiful city with lots of history. In the afternoon we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city which includes the famous opera house (Semper Oper), one of the city’s most important cultural institutions, also one of Dresden’s most impressive monuments. See the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), and the Zwinger, Dresden’s most famous landmark, a baroque complex of pavilions and galleries, built between 1710 and 1732. There will also be a special visit to one of Germany’s most interesting shops. DAY 14 Saturday 13TH DECEMBER, DRESDEN (B)Day at leisure. DAY 15 Sunday 14TH DECEMBER, DRESDEN - BERLIN (B/D)This morning we depart Dresden and visit the renowned porcelain manufacturing town of Meissen. Since the early 13th century the European Courts had been importing porcelain from China at great expense and were keen to discover the secrets of how to make it . The current porcelain factory was founded in 1710. We continue on to Berlin and enjoy a panoramic tour of Berlin’s famous landmarks including Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, The Reichstag, Bellevue Palace, Charlottenburg Palace, State Opera House and the symbolic Brandenburg Gate. Dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 16 Monday 15TH DECEMBER, BERLIN (B)Walking tour this morning to discover East Berlin and its famous sights. Our tour guide is a local historian. Afternoon visit to the markets to buy last minute gifts. DAY 17 Tuesday 16TH DECEMBER, BERLIN (B/D) Morning day trip to Potsdam for a guided tour of Fredrick the Great’s Roccoco styled Sans Souci Palace (completed in 1747) and its surrounding gardens. Return to Berlin for a special farewell dinner. DAY 18 Wednesday 17TH DECEMBER, BERLIN ( B) Morning at leisure.
